• Thermoplastic vulcanisates (TPVs) – This polypropylene and EPDM rubber combination offers amazing heat resistance and are excellent for use in the automotive industry. Instead of simply using EPDM, automotive manufacturers are looking toward TPVs as the newest innovation.
• Styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) – This styrenic block copolymer is a low cost solution for plastic extrusions. The combination of styrene and butadiene offer the exact components that can make plastics the exact hardness that is needed for your project. This compound is generally used for extrusions such as footwear and sports equipment. This should not be used in areas where there are a lot of chemicals or where the part is needed for a long period of time, as it can tarnish.
• Melt processable rubber (MPR) – This true rubber product is a bit pricier than other TPE products, but it offers a strong chemical resistance. Ideally suited for automotive environments that see a lot of oil and grease, it also offers stress relaxation characteristics as well as noise-dampening features.
• Thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) – This polyester based plastic made from adipic acid esters and tetrahydrofuran ethers offer excellent adhesion strength, resistance to chemicals and deal with heat aging well. TPU is widely used in marine, underwater pipes, industrial wire, belts and cables.
